Halloween - Part Cinq: Montrose
The City of Montrose will be having its own Halloween "Spooktacular" at the Montrose Shopping Park. Lots of activities for kids, of course, such as trick or treating, a magic show, carnival-style game booths, etc. There's even a costume photo booth. Great for the entire family, or for a date. Everything pretty much takes place at the 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue.
Date: October 31, 2007
5 pm - 9 pm
Lots of city parking. Parking behind Rocky Cola Cafe will get you three hours of free parking. Observe restrictions.

Trick or Treating for Kids 2007
Here are some safe trick or treating locations for Pasadena and environs, if you prefer not to go door-to-door in your neighborhood.
Oct 27-28, 10 am - 4 pm:
"Boo at the Zoo"
L.A. Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027, (323) 644-4200
*I saw this online, but their Web site and voice mail does not seem to confirm it. Please call during business hours to confirm this event.
October 31 (3-7 pm):
Paseo Colorado, 280 East Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, California 91101, 626.795.8891
Store to Store Trick or Treating
October 31 (4-7 pm):
One Colorado, 24 East Union Street, Pasadena, California 91103, 626.564.1066
Store to Store Trick or Treating
Kids can trick or treat from store to store in Old Town's One Colorado courtyard shopping area.
October 31 (5-7:30 pm):
Westfield Santa Anita (Arcadia), 400 S. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia CA 91007, 626-445-6255
Bring your kids dressed and ready to trick or treat from store to store!
The event is not listed on their Web site, but I called Westfield Santa Anita and they verified the times for me as of today.
Glendale Galleria: The corporate office says they don't have anything organized for trick or treaters, per se, but many stores do participate. No list of participating stores is available. See my next blog about a Halloween event at the Galleria.
If you can't get to these events on time, try your local supermarkets. Many Vons Supermarkets will provide wrapped candies to trick or treaters, as well as Gelsons at Paseo Colorado. For Gelsons, go to the Customer Service desk near the check out for your treat!

Old Town Haunt
Anybody in the mood for a haunted house? There are several in Pasadena, either by legend or for commercial purposes. I'm just going to talk about this one because it seems very professionally (i.e. commercially) organized.
"old Town Haunt"
Thur 10-11 to Sun 10-14
Thur 10-18 to Sun 10-21
Thur 10-25 to Sat 11-3
Tickets cost $13.50 per person, or $18.50 VIP. The VIP tickets gets you to the front of the line and apparently, you get access to special areas that the rest of the public does not. The walk-through takes 15-20 minutes. I've never been personally, but it sounds like a fun, convenient event to get into the Halloween mood.
Get discounted VIP tickets for $9.25 at my favorite online event ticketing outlet for Pasadena events: Goldstar Events
Thursday, Oct. 11 @ 7pm-10pm
Friday, Oct. 12 @ 7pm-Midnight
Saturday, Oct. 13 @ 7pm-Midnight
Sunday, Oct. 14 @ 7pm-10pm
Starting October 13, "Old Town Haunt" will open up a toned-down, "matinee" version for kids 4-11. Tickets are $8.50 per child, or $4.25 at Goldstar Events. Weekends only: Oct. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 from 12 to 4pm.
I look forward to finding out from others if this event is truly worth it.

Flashblog! Halloween Dress Up Day Trunk Show
Still need to shop for Halloween costumes? Don't feel like sifting through leftovers at Old Navy (although they have fantastic deals)? Or, you just want to find a fun place to take your kids while you shop for cool designer baby clothes--hit the road and head on over to Montrose! Okay, this is not Pasadena, but it's a Pasadenan's "secret" getaway from South Lake Avenue shopping traffic!
It seems that tender treasures is the only baby clothing store in Montrose. I love shopping there because they stock up on Tea Collection, Zutano and Rabbit Moon brands. Actually, what I really love is their perpetual summer sales. It's winter now, no? Anyway, I've purchased items there that normally cost $20-$52 retail, for $9.99-16.50! It can be addictive shopping at tender treasures. Note: they currently only stock children's clothing from infants to kid's sizes up to size 6.
My son loves to play in the cute little dollhouse play area, where about two kids can sit in and read books or fiddle with random toys. The nice sales staff have helped me watch my son in the past (when business was slow) as he roamed around the boutique, pulling stuffed animals off shelves, while I shop. Bless their hearts!
Here's the event information:
tender treasures
featuring a large collection of costumes from "Little Adventures"
Treat your kids to a day of dress up!
Saturday, October 13
12:00 pm-4:00 pm
Capes, Fairies, Brides, Soldiers, Mermaids, Snow White, Cinderellas, Princesses, Pirates and more!
Once Upon a Time will provide books for our costumed staff to fread for a Halloween Story Time too.
Refreshments will be served all day.
Don't miss the fun and the fantasy!
Please call 818-248-2260 for reservations
All kids with reservations are entered into a drawing for a $100.00 Gift Certificate!
2280 Honolulu Ave. Montrose, California 91011 818-248-2260
Parking: street parking or any public lot just south of or north of Honolulu Avenue.
See you there!

13th Annual Kidspace Pumpkin Festival
Cool! Something to take my son to for his first Halloween as a toddler. There always seems to be some sort of carnival every weekend at Brookside Park near Kidspace Children's Museum... This event is basically a carnival "with rides, game booths, costume parades and live stage performances, the Pumpkin Festival takes place over two days in Brookside Park in front of Kidspace."
October 27 9:30am - 6pm
October 28 9:30am - 5pm
Free admission. Tickets must be purchased onsite for individual rides, games, crafts, and activities.
Click here for more information: Kidspace Children's Museum Pumpkin Festival Info.
Parking Information: Park at parking lot "I", which is the first parking lot across from the Soccer field at the Rose Bowl. If it overflows, you'll have to try your luck at scattered locations in and around the Bowl.
